Four Upper Valley school districts will award a $1,500 grant to sponsor students.

Junior Achievement of Washington (JA) has been awarded a grant of $1500 by the
Yakima Southwest Rotary Charities. The grant will be used to sponsor 5th and 8th grade youth in the
East Valley, West Valley, Selah and Yakima  School Districts for participation in JA’s in-class
programs and experiential learning programs JA BizTown and JA Finance Park. These programs are
designed to build work skills, school competency, critical thinking, teamwork and leadership skills.
Funding will underwrite participation of 150 students in Central Washington schools and classrooms.
Junior Achievement served 4,000 Central Washington students during the 2010-11 school year. JA is
on track to reach 8,000 this year and welcomes the opportunity to serve additional students during the fall 2012 sessions, bringing programs that focus on financial literacy, work readiness and
entrepreneurship. The grant from Yakima Southwest Rotary Charities will provide the additional
resources necessary to reach more students.
