After six years on the job, Yakima School District Superintendent Elaine Beraza has announced her retirement, effective at the end of the 2014-15 school year. The announcement came at the Yakima School District's Board of Directors meeting Friday morning.

In her letter to the board, Dr. Beraza states, “I have had the privilege and good fortune to work with a progressive and supportive board of directors, a knowledgeable, highly professional, student-centered administrative team, and a dedicated, collaborative group of teachers and staff who have the best interest of students at the top of their agendas.  The tremendous level of business and community support in Yakima has been especially meaningful to me.”

In the summary of her spring 2014 evaluation, Board President Martha Rice shared, “We are pleased that Dr. Beraza is part of our team.  She is an outstanding, insightful and dedicated educational leader.  The Yakima School District, its staff and our students are fortunate to have her at our helm.”
