Yakima Politicians Watch Where You Hang Those Signs
Thinking about running for a political office in Yakima? Candidate week is set to start on Monday, May 17. Yakima City officials want to remind you about political signs that seem to end up nailed or taped to many buildings and fences during the political season. City officials say signs cannot be affixed to City property - including fences or utility poles - or placed within City parks (other than public rights-of-way next to parks).
If you do run for office you also need to remove the signs as well
The signs also need to be removed in a timely manner after the campaign is over.
City officials say they have other requirements in the City of Yakima’s sign code regarding temporary signs, which include those for political campaigns:
Temporary signs can be no larger than four square feet and the height cannot exceed three feet, including the stake.
All the rules can be found in the municipal code
Temporary signs may be placed on public rights-of-way between the curb and property line. However, the abutting property owner’s approval is required, and no signs are allowed to block the clear view triangle. Dilapidated or nuisance signs in rights-of-way must be removed. To ensure campaign signs follow the sign code rules and regulations, candidates are encouraged to read Yakima Municipal Code section 15.08. The City of Yakima’s complete code provisions related to signs can be found at https://www.codepublishing.com/WA/Yakima/html/Yakima15/Yakima1508.html#15.08.110
