The Yakima Police Department is hoping for people to sign up for the upcoming community academy. It's set for every Wednesday beginning February 28 and ending on May 16. Spokesman Mike Bastinelli says the academy is free and it's set up to give you a better idea of how police do their job. "It's a chance to learn about the department and what we do to protect the community."
Classes are held at the special operations building located at 207 South 3rd Street. The academy is free and enrollment will be on a first come basis, limited to 30 attendees.  You must be 18-years-old and pass a background check to attend.
Deadline for applications is Monday February 26. You can pick up an application at the police department or by contacting community services 575 6197.
