Richland Man Takes “Escaping The Cops” To The Extreme
How far will you go to escape an arrest? Many people have come to the logical conclusion that escape is usually futile and that trying to avoid the penalty will just make it even greater. However, a Richland man wasn’t thinking this and decided he had a fighting chance.
Escape
Thursday afternoon, a Richland Police Department officer spotted a man in Columbia Park who they believed was wanted for being in possession of a controlled substance. The man in question had escaped officers just the day before.
The man booked it down to the banks of the river and many officers arrived on the scene to enclose him. However, they realized he was not in the area that he had seemingly ran into. Then an officer spotted the man: in the water!
Rescue
He was making a last ditch effort to swim away from the officers, across the Columbia River towards Bateman Island. He must have not been the greatest swimmer as he appeared to be seriously struggling.
A water rescue was organized. Drones watched over his location and a rescue boat soon arrived on the scene. Nobody was hurt and the man was promptly arrested. We do not know what exact charges he will be facing.
