You can help the Yakima Police Department fund a planned Memorial Garden to honor Sergeant Joe Deccio during a special event on Wednesday.

AUGUST 3 IS THE 5-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF DECCIO'S DEATH

Deccio passed away while performing his law enforcement duties for the City of Yakima five years ago and the department is now planning for the Yakima Law Enforcement Memorial Garden. You can enjoy a meal at Texas Roadhouse in Union Gap on March 4 and March 11 from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of your total food purchase to the Yakima Police Department. August 3 of this year marks the five-year anniversary of the death of Sergeant Joe Deccio.

THE GARDEN WILL BE LOCATED ON THE NORTH END OF THE DEPARTMENT

A press release from the Yakima Police Department says the garden or "sacred space" will serve as a lasting tribute to Deccio’s sacrifice, dedication, and service to our community. Yakima Police say the garden is a "collaborative effort that reflects our commitment to honoring those who serve and protect."

YOUR HELP WILL MAKE THE GARDEN POSSIBLE

Police say it's only going to be a reality with the help of the community and sponsors. Authorities are hoping for support which they say will help fund essential elements of the memorial garden, including landscaping, the monument itself, and security enhancements.

TWO WAYS TO HELP

You can enjoy a meal at Texas on March 4 and 11 or make Donations to the Yakima Police Patrolman's Association with options for one-time gifts, ongoing contributions, and sponsorships. The news release says your donations will "ensure that this memorial is a fitting tribute and a place for reflection, remembrance, and community gathering for years to come."

The Most Religious Counties in Washington State

Census data shows Washington is one of the least religious states, but it’s not that simple—some folks aren’t religious at all, while others are very religious. It all just depends on which county you're in.
