Yakima Police Continue To Investigate Sunday Shooting

Yakima Police have identified a 16-year-old killed early Sunday while walking in east Yakima as 16-year-old David Martinez. An autopsy shows he died of a gunshot to the chest.

Police say they were called to the 1800 block of Sliger Road just before 2:00 a.m. Sunday after witnesses reported shots fired in the neighborhood. Authorities say the 16-year-old Martinez was walking to a home with four other teens when they were confronted by two men with guns. A fight started and 16-year-old Martinez died at the scene. But police say one of the suspects, a 19-year-old man was also shot and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he remains in critical condition. His name is not being released pending the processing of charging documents. Yakima police continue to investigate the incident.
