Yakima city parks are about to see some big changes, thanks to the passage of Proposition 1 on Tuesday's ballot.

The proposition allocates $750,000 annually to city parks. Ken Wilkenson the city Parks and Recreation manager, says the past decade has been tough for parks in Yakima.

Cuts and tough economic times. We’ve really had to get lean and mean and I really give credit to the staff to keep things going like we have been.

Wilkinson says it is the little things that have been ignored because of a lack of money. Weeds in parks, no fertilizing, bathrooms closed early and even parks and recreation work vehicles that have not been replaced.

He says the money will help update and beautify city parks and could also help the city create a new pool facility or soccer complex.
