Where to Drop of Your Voting Ballot in Yakima County
A lot of people have been wondering what the safest way is to drop off their election ballots in Yakima County.
Every election, I have always gone through the drive-up location on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in downtown Yakima and dropped off my ballot in the red and yellow election box.
Since Washington State offers the mail-in voting option, we hardly see election ballot drama. As of late, however, there have been bad actors trying to create a sense of insecurity around our elections, and that makes me livid.
A new option has popped up in the past couple of years where businesses and individuals have been offering to either pick up your voting ballot in person or harvest your ballots at their location.
IS IT LEGAL TO HARVEST PEOPLE'S VOTING BALLOTS IN Washington STATE?
Some voters are wondering if this is even legal, and it turns out that it is. According to a source on the Whatcom County website, there are no laws in Washington preventing us from giving someone else our vote to drop off.
Is it safe to do this? It depends on whether or not you trust the person you are giving your ballot to.
So far, we have not seen any cases of harvested votes being destroyed or not turned in; however, there have been two instances of weird stuff happening to election ballots that were mailed. These horrifying events happened in Vancouver, WA, and Portland, Oregon, and they are currently still under investigation.
