Yakima Deputies Searching For Driver After Bicyclist Killed
Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for the driver of a maroon colored GMC Sierra or Denali style pickup who they say crashed into a bicyclist in the 11000 block of Summitview Avenue Sunday. The crash killed the 66-year-old female bicyclist. Deputies say the crash was reported by witnesses at about 10:30 am Sunday.
The driver crossed the fog line and crashed into the woman
Deputies arrived and found the woman dead on the side of the road. A press release from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office says the "initial investigation shows that the bicyclist was traveling westbound and was off of the roadway near the fog line, when an unknown maroon colored GMC Sierra or Denali style pickup was also west bound and crossed over the fog line and struck the bicyclist." The driver of the pickup failed to stop and according to witness’s fled west bound on Summitview Avenue. Authorities say a witness tried to follow the pickup but lost sight of the pickup in the 13000 Block of Summitview.
Deputies say the pickup will have fresh damage on the right front of the vehicle.

The press release says the Yakima County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit is asking the publics assistance in identifying and locating the vehicle and the unknown driver. Officials with the unit are asking "anyone who witnessed the collision and may have seen the pickup in the area, and to check your home security systems to see if it shows the roadway with the above-described pickup between 10:25 am and 10:40 am, to call the Yakima County Sheriff's dispatch at 509-574-2500.
