Sunday was a busy day for Yakima and Union Gap firefighters, police officers and street crews helping people with flooded homes and property -- a result of heavy rain on Saturday and early Sunday morning.

Crews say water began affecting homes around 2 a.m. Sunday and the threat continued until at least 3 Sunday afternoon.

Ahtanum Road between Goodman and South 10th Avenue, as well as Washington Avenue from 16th to 48th avenues were closed due to water over the roadway. Roads were reopening today (Monday).

With more rain in the forecast fire crews are warning the flooding might not be over.

They recommend homeowners prepare themselves with an evacuation plan as well as any mitigation work which can be provided to your home. Sandbags are available by contacting the 24-hour fire dispatch center at 509-457-0207.
