OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — State shellfish managers have approved a nine-day razor clam dig, beginning at Long Beach and later expanding to Mocrocks and Copalis.

The clam dig on ocean beaches begins Wednesday on Long Beach. The beach at Mocrocks is added Saturday and Copalis will be added on April 25.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved the digs after marine toxin tests showed the clams on those beaches are safe to eat.

State officials recommend that diggers arrive at the beaches an hour or two before low tide for best results. Digging is not allowed on any beach after noon.

Under state law, diggers are required to keep the first 15 clams they find. Each digger's clams must be kept in a separate container.

All diggers age 15 or older must have an applicable 2016-17 fishing license to harvest razor clams on any beach.
