Curtis E. Vangstad is now officially in the race for the Yakima County Commission seat held by Rand Elliot.

Vangstad was a write-in candidate in the Primary Election and according to the county auditor's office was able to gain the 1 percent of the vote needed to move to the General Election.

The auditor's office is still researching the vote for the other candidate, Michael Scott Brumback, who was a write-in for the 14th District legislative seat held by Norm Johnson.

Meanwhile, a former deputy clerk in Yakima County is now in the lead in the race for Yakima County Clerk. After ballots were counted Wednesday, Janelle Riddle pulled into the lead with 10 votes ahead of Sarah Matheny, who was in the lead on Tuesday night. The other candidate, Kathleen Carter, remains a close third.

More ballots will be counted today in the Yakima County auditor's office.
