UW Student Cleared in 2015 Stabbing, Set to Resume Classes

SEATTLE (AP) — A University of Washington student found to have acted in self-defense when he stabbed another student who attacked him outside a house party is allowed back on campus.

The Seattle Times reports university officials have lifted 22-year-old Jared Ha's suspension. He will start classes later this month.

Ha stood trial last year for the January 2015 incident. He was found not guilty of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon for stabbing 20-year-old Graham Harper, who had been intoxicated at the time of the fight. Ha was also cleared of another assault charge for punching a woman during the fight.

Ha says it's unfair he's the only one who has had to face disciplinary action.

The state has been ordered to pay Ha's family more than $45,000 in court fees.
