Yakima firefighters battled a house fire early Sunday morning that caused more than a half million dollars in damage. Yakima Fire Department officials say firefighters were called to the home at 4609 Hilltop Way at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday and when they arrived they found the two residents outside the home.

A news release from the fire department says because the fire over took the entire structure creating unsafe and hazardous conditions for the firefighters to enter the structure the Shift Commander decided to attack the fire from the outside. And while battling the flames the first and second floors of  the structure collapsed causing damage to the gas meter which intensified the flames. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. But damage is estimated at $700,000.
