Two Juveniles Arrested In Wednesday Shooting in East Yakima
No one injured but a shooting in the middle of the day in the 900 block of East Mead Avenue was reported on Wednesday. Yakima Police say two juvenile males were standing at the intersection of South Fair Avenue and East Mead Avenue when a vehicle drove up to the two and the driver called out to them thinking he may have known the two kids.
POLICE SAY ONE JUVENILE PULLED A GUN AND FIRED SHOTS
At that time one of the juveniles pulled out a gun and began firing at the victim. The victim fled in the vehicle and was not injured. Officers responded to the area and arrested the two suspects who are now being held in the Yakima County juvenile jail on assault charges.
Where did the teens get the guns? Police say plenty of illegal guns are on the streets of Yakima. They say many are stolen in vehicle prowls and then sold on the street.
POLICE SAY PROTECT YOUR GUN FROM BEING STOLEN
In fact last year the Yakima Police Department created a video on social media and they're asking for your help to cut serious crime by locking up your firearms whether you're at home or in your vehicle. Making sure your gun is locked while in your vehicle is vitally important say police because they say 50% of all guns stolen in Yakima come from vehicle prowls.
STOLEN GUNS ARE USED IN LOCAL CRIME
Authorities say the guns are then used on the street in many serious crimes including gang related shootings.
