Trial for Real Estate Agent Murderer Begins

The trial began Monday for the man accused of killing Yakima Real Estate Broker Vern Holbrook.

Luis Gomez-Monges stood before a jury Monday for the first time during opening statements. Daniel Blizzard is currently awaiting sentencing after he was convicted earlier this month of hiring Gomez-Monges to kill Holbrook. Now the prosecution turns its attention to Gomez-Monges.

In opening statements Monday morning, the prosecution alluded to both Jill Taylor and Adriana Mendez taking the stand against Monges during the trial. Taylor was Holbrook's former daughter-in-law and Mendez was with Holbrook and Monges when the brutal attack happened. Both also testified against Blizzard.

The trial continues today in Yakima County Superior Court.
