Time to Celebrate! Yakima's Christmas Trees Arrives Monday

Did you enjoy your Thanksgiving Holiday? Are you tired of turkey yet? More holiday fun and food is on the way including the Holiday Lighted Parade Downtown and Yakima's Christmas tree lighting. Last week Yakima found the community Christmas tree and now preparations are underway for the tree to arrive in downtown Yakima on Monday.

THE TREE WILL BE CUT AND TRANSPORTED ON MONDAY

The tree, which will be cut down on Monday morning was given to the city by Yakima area residents Barry and Jan Rosenkranz. A press release says the Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) crew in partnership with the "City of Yakima Public Works Division, Russell Crane and Carrell Crane will remove the tree and transport the tree to Millennium Plaza, and place the tree into the ground next Monday."

DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC COULD BE IMPACTED BY THE TREE ARRIVAL

It's expected to be transported to the downtown area between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm Monday. The installation will likely impact traffic from 40th Avenue and Fruitvale Boulevard to North 5th Avenue and Yakima Avenue to 3rd Street. The tree will be placed at the Millennium Plaza on Monday afternoon. Third Street between Yakima Avenue and Chestnut Avenue will be temporarily closed to accommodate the tree installation. Parking spaces on 3rd Street adjacent to Millennium Plaza will also be closed.

The official tree lighting ceremony will be Sunday, December 3rd, after the Downtown Yakima annual Holiday Lighted Parade which starts at 6:00 pm.

YOU CAN BE INVOLVED IN THE PARADE

A press release says the "entire community is invited to join the parade. It's free to be involved in the parad but participants are asked to preregister at YakimaParades.com. You are encouraged to wear festive clothing, but are asked not to dress as Santa Claus as "SANTA will be making his official arrival known at the end of the parade."
