That’s A Lot Of Juicy Apples After A Long Hot Growing Season

Washington's new apple crop, easily the nation's largest, is projected to be 125.2 million cartons this season, third largest in state history.

The Washington Apple Commission projects this year's crop will be 10.5 percent lower than last year's record crop.

The Washington apple season officially begins on Sept. 1, although the commission says harvest has already started on some Golden Delicious and Gala varieties in the state.

About one-third of Washington apples are exported to more than 60 countries each year. That includes China, which in the spring agreed to accept all varieties of U.S. apples.
