If you drink water from the tap in the city of Yakima no worries you're drinking some tasty clean water according to city officials. The contamination found in the Terrace Heights Water System last month prompted city of Yakima officials to have its water tested for harmful bacteria.

YOU'RE DRINKING CLEAN WATER IN THE CITY OF YAKIMA

Good news. The city received a clean bill of health after finding no problems or contamination in the water samples. Mike Shane, The Water and Irrigation Manager for the city of Yakima says "we tested all of our sources; four wells and our surface water and the results showing PFSA's, which are known as 'forever chemicals' not detected is great news, especially given the health and environmental concerns associated with those substances."

CITY WATER WAS TESTED AT A HIGHER STANDARD

The testing of the city drinking water was performed by Edge Analytical. Shane says they asked the lab to test at "stricter standards proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency. He says the city is being "proactive" with the testing anticipating an EPA ruling which could take effect later this year or in 2024.

THE EPA IS CREATING TOUGHER STANDARDS FOR DRINKING WATER IN THE FUTURE

The tougher standards are being proposed through what the EPA calls a National Primary Drinking Water Regulation which would create legally enforceable levels, "called Maximum Containment Levels for six PFAS in drinking water."
