Mike Johnson says a move by the city to designate a secure parking lot for people who live in their vehicles is the wrong move and won't help the local homeless problem.

The council has a short agenda. One item on the agenda however is expected to generate a lot of discussion.

Council members will hear a presentation from Yakima Valley Trolleys which last month enjoyed having Santa Clause ride the trolley's.

Soneya Lund was elected as assistant mayor.

The new representatives, Matt Brown, Janice Deccio and Danny Herrera will be part of a swearing in ceremony during the meeting

The official turnout from Tuesday was 18.02% or 22,946 ballots returned. In the city of Yakima council seats were open in Districts 2, 4 and 6.

The meeting starts at 5:30 pm. Because of COVID-19 concerns the meeting continues to be held on Zoom.

The parks and recreation department wants the city create a policy or ordinance to “govern” the scattering of human cremains in city parks or on city property.
