The Yakima City Council holds the first meeting of the new year on Tuesday when new council members will take the oath of office.
New council members will officially take office after a swearing-in ceremony
The new representatives, Matt Brown, Janice Deccio and Danny Herrera will be part of a swearing in ceremony during the meeting that starts at 5:30 pm. The council, which also includes Patricia Byers, Holly Cousens, Eliana Macias and Soneya Lund will also elect a new mayor and assistant mayor on Tuesday.
You do have the option of attending the meeting at Yakima City Hall
The meeting will be held on Zoom because of concerns about COVID-19 but a news release from the city says you could attend the meeting in person. The news release says;
"For those who would like to attend the meeting in person at Yakima City Hall, 129 N. 2nd Street, the City is required to follow the Governor’s Proclamation regarding face coverings. Every person entering City Hall, including those entering to attend a City Council meeting, are required to wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth at all times. Masks will be available in the alcove at City Hall."
The council is expected to hold a discussion about whether to continue on Zoom or hold future meetings live at Yakima City Hall.
