Street Racing a Concern of Yakima

Street racing is a popular crime especially in the spring and summer months in Yakima. Yakima police reported 23 street racing incidents last year. Although the Yakima Police Department says it is not a common problem, they do receive vehicle-racing complaints from neighbors a couple of times a week, says Sergeant Tim Bardwell. KIMA Action News found most of the incidents happened near 1st Street and Yakima Avenue. However, there are other areas in town that are popular with racers. Bardwell says street racing happens at night during the weekends in the spring and summer months.
