Have you received your COVID-19 vaccine yet?
Yakima County continues to receive COVID-19 vaccine but not enough yet to open a mass vaccination site at Yakima's State Fair Park. This is week 10 of the vaccine distribution in Washington State and 3,700 doses of the vaccine were shipped to the area this week. That includes 500 first doses and 3,200 second doses. Health officials say however the county needs to receive 15,000 to 20,000 doses a week to open a mass vaccination site. Nathan Johnson the local Emergency Response Coordinator says "unfortunately, Yakima County has not received enough vaccine allocation to supplement both our partners and the mass vaccination site at the Yakima State Fair Park. As Yakima County continues to be in Phase 1B Tier 1 of COVID-19 vaccination, we will continue to work with our vaccination partners to efficiently vaccinate anyone who is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. When the time comes, our mass vaccine site will be ready for vaccine distributions in the future.”

They say this week the state is focusing on second doses of COVID-19 vaccine and as a result first doses will be limited. But the officials say they're encouraged because Washington State's vaccine allocation from the federal government is steadily increasing. Health officials say those who've already had the first dose are expected to receive the second vaccine from the same location.
Yakima Health officials encourage people looking vaccine to continue to check the Yakima Health District website for updated information and for eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine. Click on the site
