Bad news from the State Legislature about the Yakima Valley School in Selah. A bill introduced this week mandates the closure of the school by December of 2012. The bill sponsored by Senator Adam Kline doesn't yet spell out if the sponsors intend to mitigate the damage of the closures pushed by the Governor by promoting transition of residents into the State-run community programs. The school in Selah serves people with development disabilities. 2 years ago the State pushed for the closure of the school but local lawmakers were able to stop the push to close the School. This year is different says 14th District State Representative Charles Ross of Naches. He says with the State facing a major budget problem the school may in fact be closed by the end of the year.
