Signature gathering continues with the aim of reversing a controversial rule in the State of Washington. Rhonda Shepard is a spokesperson for Initiative 1515 to repeal the bathroom rule. Shepard says state lawmakers tried but failed to repeal the rule in the last legislative session so she says it's time for citizens to act. "We're trying to get to 300,000 signatures by July 8 so the people of the State of Washington have a chance to vote on it."  Last December the rule went into effect in the state that allows transgender people to use the gender segregated facility that they identify with. Today (Thursday) the State Administrative Review Joint Committee will meet in Yakima to talk about and hear testimony on a number of subjects including the bathroom rule. The meeting is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Ahtanum Room at the ESD 105 offices at 33 South 2nd Avenue in Yakima. the meeting is open to the public.
If you are interested in signing a petition or gathering signatures petitions are available at the Church of the Nazarene in Zillah, the Christian Church in Selah and the Calvary Chapel in Toppenish. 300,000 signatures are required by July 8 to make the November ballot.
