Thirty years ago Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler had a top 40 hit with the song “I Need A Hero” with the lyrics  “He's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight”.  It’s a cheesy song & video by any measure but the message has been substantiated by a British study that shows  women are more attracted to men who they view as heroic.

The video features cowboys but successful sports players will do as will firemen and especially war heroes. Ninety two U.K. women were given hypothetical profiles of men, with each guy assigned varying levels of heroism in different contexts. The women were then questioned to determine how attracted they were to each man profiled, and the women were most likely to find the soldier attractive, and were more inclined to say they'd date him if he had been awarded a medal for bravery in combat.

No pressure there fellas.  Remember when all it used to take was having a job and a car that worked!

Now here’s the proof that it’s heroism that matters most because the study showed non-decorated soldiers, average sports stars, and even successful business men were not viewed as particularly more attractive.

However as in most male/female interactions, when men were tested, they actually rated female soldiers, both in combat and in disaster zones, as less attractive than their non-hero counterparts. ." (Daily Mail)   https://youtu.be/ap7m1CYzS6A
