Yakima Police have a warning. If you are caught picking up prostitutes on North First Street, it is likely your arrest would not go unnoticed.

Capt. Rod Light says in the effort to clean up North First Street police are arresting prostitutes and their customers and releasing that information to local media. Light says it is a way to put pressure on both prostitutes and customers. Light says they have already made a number of arrests and plan to release that information to local media outlets soon.

Light says the city wants to force the crime of prostitution out of Yakima. “If you are arrested for this particular crime you are taking the risk of everyone in the city know who you are.” Light says police have been working closely with the city legal department to make sure the program does not violate any Washington State laws.
