Prayer Policy Now Official In City of Yakima

The Yakima City Council now has a new prayer policy adopted at Tuesday's council meeting. In the past the business meeting would start with a prayer. But the new policy calls for the prayer before any business begins. The policy also calls for a disclaimer on the council agenda to warn people that the prayer will happen. Each council member will have a chance to conduct the prayer. The duty is rotated throughout the year. The prayer policy was developed with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund which has agreed to defend the city if it faces litigation over the new policy.
