The Yakima Valley is Ag Central, yet I sometimes think we take for granted the neat things we have that are related to agriculture.

But this weekend, the Central Washington Antique Farm Equipment Club will do its best to help remind you.

The annual Pioneer Power Show & Swap Meet, featuring live demonstrations of oldtime equipment and farming techniques, offers a whole bunch of fun, family-oriented events for you to enjoy.

The show runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 15-16) at the Central Washington Agricultural Museum, which is in Fulbright Park, 4508 Main St. in Union Gap. Admission $5 per person, though children under age 12 are admitted free if accompanied by a parent.

Attractions include:

  • Farm equipment displays.
  • Vintage trucks and engines.
  • Farm and lawn tractor pulls.
  • An equipment parade.
  • Live music.
  • Quilt displays.
  • A silent auction.
  • A 50/50 raffle, prizes and gifts.
  • Wheat threshing and binding.
  • A working sawmill and blacksmith shop.
  • Train rides for kids.
  • A petting zoo.
