Man Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run at Yakima Intersection—Driver Arrested
A 32-year-old man with ties to Kennewick was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of West Nob Hill Blvd and South 23rd Avenue early Thursday morning.
DRIVER FACES CHARGES
A press release from Yakima Police says the 39-year-old driver was arrested for Vehicular Assault for driving while impaired and "causing significant injuries to another person." Police say when Officers arrived at about 2:54 am the victim was unconscious lying in the roadway with a severe head injury.
VICTIM IN UNMARKED INTERSECTION
He was treated at the scene taken to MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital but then flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries. The press release says the 39-year-old suspect was driving a 2014 Hyundai Sonata west on West Nob Hill Blvd. as the pedestrian was crossing the road from a parking lot. Authorities say the intersection is considered an unmarked crosswalk according to Washington State Law, meaning the vehicle was required to yield to the pedestrian.
POLICE SAY DRIVER WAS IMPAIRED
Officers talked with the driver before he was arrested after showing signs of impairment after a on site DUI investigation.
