Officials Link Fatal Measles Case to Tribal Health Clinic

SEATTLE (AP) — Washington health officials have found the woman who was killed by measles was likely exposed at a Port Angeles tribal health clinic.

The 28-year-old woman with underlying health problems, who died in April, was the first person to die from measles in the U.S. since 2003 and the first measles-related death in the state in 25 years.

The Seattle Times reports that recently released details show nearly three dozen other people were also potentially exposed to the measles virus on Jan. 29, 2015, at the Lower Elwha Health Clinic by a 52-year-old man who became the first case of measles confirmed in Clallam County in two decades.

Officials with the Elwha clinic did not respond to questions about the exposure.
