CHELAN FALLS (AP) — The Chelan County Sheriff says a man on a date was robbed when another man, who had been hiding in the trunk of his date's car, emerged and confronted him.

Sheriff Brian Burnett said Thursday that 30-year-old Amber Hernandez, of Omak, and 25-year-old Jose Lara Mendez were booked into jail for investigation of robbery.

Authorities say Hernandez had arranged a date with the victim Wednesday night. The two got into her car and drove to the Beebe Springs area in Chelan Falls.

Authorities say at some point Hernandez opened the trunk of her car, and Mendez got out with a rifle and confronted the victim. They say Mendez struck the victim in the face and took his wallet, phone and vehicle.

Both Hernandez and Mendez fled the area and were arrested separately.

The victim was treated at a local hospital.
