Washington Transgender Athlete Debate: Camas High School Runner Sparks National Outrage

Imagine it’s the 1980s and you’re in Hollywood pitching a high school comedy movie. The movie is set in a dystopian future where a boy, finding no luck on his cross-country team, decides to identify as a girl so he can win races.
Logan Mihailoff
Forty years later, and this is actually a reality we live with. Take the recent case of Logan Mihailoff of Camas High School in Washington State. Mihailoff began the season on the boys' junior varsity team, where he got 76th place at Oregon’s Ultimook Invite.
And then, just like that, he identified as a girl and switched over to the girls' cross-country team. He recently got 2nd out of 195 female runners in the junior-senior JV team at the Nike Portland Invitational. He then went on to take first place at a local 4A dual meet between Camas High School and Union High School, hosted at Union. They couldn’t have been too happy!
Blowback And Response
These circumstances have rightfully created massive blowback from the public. He has been published on hecheated.org, a database that catalogs incidents of men competing in women’s sports.
Camas High School issued a statement to address criticisms by explaining they are bound by regulations imposed by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, which allows student-athletes to join teams in alignment with their gender identity.
It is no secret that males have built-in advantages over women when competing in sports. Anyone who thinks biological males competing in women’s sports is okay needs to check themselves, because this is beyond the pale.
