TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) — A man charged with fatally shooting a woman inside a vehicle in Kennewick on Christmas Eve while their young child was in the back seat has been sentenced to 32 years in prison.

The Tri-City Herald reports that 20-year-old Francisco Munoz Quintero was sentenced Monday after being found guilty of second-degree murder and other charges in the death of 22-year-old Luisa Garcia Farias.

Court documents say Munoz Quintero told investigators he had been arguing with Garcia Farias in her vehicle on Dec. 24 when he pulled out a gun. He said the two struggled and the gun went off.

Munoz Quintero fled the scene after leaving Garcia Farias' body on the street.

He apologized to the victim's family in court Monday, saying he regretted the incident.
