Why The Price Differences?

Differences in gas prices by county come down a wide variety of market and government forces. Local taxes, transportation costs, and differences in amount of stations all affect gas prices.

San Juan County’s gas prices are uniquely high due to the cost of transportation to bring fuel to a geographically isolated location, and very low station competition. Less competition means stations don’t have to lower prices to stay afloat.
On the other hand, Asotin County sees the lowest gas prices due to its proximity to inland fuel pipelines, lack of business regulation in eastern counties which creates lower operating costs, and its location near the Idaho border which forces them to lower costs to be able to compete with Idaho stations.

Although Washington has the 2nd highest gas prices in the country, count yourself lucky you live in its 3rd least expensive county!
