Man Arrested After Boy Dies of Blunt-Force Trauma

Yakima Police say a 1-year-old boy injured at a Yakima apartment on Monday died of blunt-force trauma to the head. According to an autopsy the boy, identified as Alexander Lynch also had skull fractures. Yakima Police Capt. Jay Seely says they arrested a 27-year-old Yakima man on Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder. Seely says the man is the mother's boyfriend. he's expected to make an appearance in Yakima County Superior Court Wednesday. Detectives continue to question the mother trying to figure out if she had any role in the death.
Police were called to an apartment in the 1200 block of South 72nd Avenue at about 2:00 a.m. Monday where they found the boy injured. He was taken to a Yakima Hospital then transferred to Harborview Medical Center where he died.
The murder was the 4th homicide reported in the city of Yakima so far this year.
