Legislature Oks Study of Deadly Use of Force by Police

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Legislature in Washington has passed a bill that would create a task force to study how law enforcement uses deadly force in the state.

The House concurred with Senate amendments to House Bill 2908 on a 97-0 vote on Thursday, sending the bill to the Gov. Inslee.

The task force would also study Washington's existing use of force laws, which the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington says makes the state one of the most difficult in the nation to prosecute an officer for an improper shooting. Representatives from a number of organizations and state agencies in the task force would also study potential ways to reduce violent interactions between police and public citizens.
