There are several things that we shouldn’t throw away in Washington. Environmental reasons are the main reason for these banned things, and who doesn’t know that it’s better to recycle everything we can when we can?

But there are still people who discard stuff where they shouldn’t. Below, you’ll find a list of 23 items that are actually banned to throw in the trash.

One of my earliest memories was every Tuesday morning in Naches (just out side of Yakima), watching the garbage men come pulling up in front of my house, one of the workers driving, and the other one riding and hanging on the back of the truck.

He’d hop off, grab the can, and empty it into the truck. Being a little kid, I’d wave, and most of the time, they’d wave back. It made such an impression that for the longest time, I wanted to be a garbage man when I grew up.

Nowadays, gone is the person hanging from the back of the truck. Instead, the trucks are almost like Transformers, with arms popping out of the sides and grabbing the bins. Times have changed, much like what we used to be able to throw away, and now what is banned.
