Some relief at the pump for Yakima drivers as average gasoline prices have dropped by 5.0 cents per gallon over the past week, bringing the average price to $3.72 per gallon, according to a recent survey by GasBuddy, which analyzed 91 local stations. This marks an 18.4 cent decrease from prices just a month ago and a significant 102.3 cent drop compared to a year ago.

EVEN THE NATIONAL PRICE IS DOWN THIS WEEK

On the national side the average price of gasoline has also decreased, falling 4.6 cents per gallon in the past week to an average of $3.28. The national average is down 17.9 cents over the last month and 48.9 cents compared to last year.
Meanwhile, diesel prices are also witnessing a slight decline, with the national average currently at $3.65 per gallon, down 0.2 cents in the last week and marking a fresh multi-year low.

WE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE CHEAPEST GAS

For those looking for the best deals, the cheapest gasoline in the Yakima Valley can be found for $3.03 at Wheelers Kountry Korner in Wapato, while Costco in Union Gap is offering fuel at $3.17 per gallon.

GOOD NEWS FOR GAS PRICES IN THE FUTURE

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, expressed optimism about the current trend in fuel prices. “Motorists rejoice! The national average price of gasoline has continued to slump for the fifth straight week. With the summer driving season now over, we have much to look forward to for the fall: more drops at the pump as demand decreases seasonally, and the changeover to cheaper winter gasoline is just two weeks away.”

MORE CHEAPER GAS ON THE WAY

Looking ahead, De Haan noted, “If we don’t see a major hurricane in the Gulf and conditions stabilize in the Middle East, we could see the national average fall below $3 a gallon in the next few months.” As prices continue to fall, Yakima residents can expect to save more on their fuel costs in the weeks to come while remaining hopeful for further declines as the fall season progresses.
