Retreat/Rimrock Fire: 70% Contained, Now 45,601 Acres
Firefighters are getting closer to fully containing the massive Retreat/Rimrock fire now at 45, 601 acres with 70% containment.
LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS ARE GETTING A LOT OF HELP AND IT'S WORKING
Last week local firefighters got a lot of help from the California Complex Incident Management Team 14 if fighting the fire and will continue to work on containing and suppressing the fire. It's the largest fire in the state of Washington.
THE ROAD IS STILL CLOSED BECAUSE OF HAZARDS
The Highway 12 corridor remains closed to public travel for both firefighter and public safety. The fire remains very active along the highway and fire affected large trees continue to fall across the highway at unexpected times. No word on when the highway will be reopened. No injuries have been reported. The fire started on July 23 on private property. The exact cause remains under investigation. Level 3 Evacuation orders remain in place for Highway 12 from the Y at Naches to Hause creek.
Level 1 Evacuation levels are in place for the Tieton/Cowiche area.
TWO OTHER LARGE FIRES ARE KEEPING FIREFIGHTERS BUSY
The 2nd largest fire in the state is the Pioneer Fire on the shores of Lake Chelan. It's at more than 38,000 acres with 13% containment.
The other large fire in the region is the Williams Mine Fire burning in the Trout Lake area located within the Mount Adams Ranger District. It's grown from 4,500 acres last week to 9,346 with no containment. Trout Lake is on a Level 1 "be aware" evacuation.
