Federal Help Coming After August Windstorm
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama has signed a disaster declaration for Washington related to a late August windstorm.
The declaration signed Thursday orders federal aid to supplement state, tribal, eligible local governments and some private nonprofits on a cost-sharing basis for repairing or replacing facilities damaged in the Aug. 29 storm.
Island, Jefferson and Snohomish counties are eligible for recovery and federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation statewide.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is surveying damage and may designate more counties for assistance.
