Fatal Fire That Killed Former Officer Ruled Accidental
Fire investigators say a blaze that killed a former Yakima Police Sergeant was accidental. 60-year-old Mark Peck died Sunday night at his home on Pomona Road. The Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins says Peck died of smoke inhalation. Investigators believe the fire was caused by smoking after Peck fell asleep.
Peck retired from Yakima Police Department in May 2002, after serving 27 years. During his tenure at the department, he served in patrol, detectives, was a member of the SWAT team and at the time of his retirement, he was the traffic sergeant. Funeral arrangements for Sergeant Peck are pending.
Officers will escort Peck's body from the coroners office to Shaw and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday morning.
