A 31-year-old woman from Outlook was arrested early Saturday morning for crashing into a Yakima County Sheriff's Deputy patrol vehicle North of Sunnyside. Authorities one deputy was seated in his vehicle which was parked facing north bound on the east side of McClain drive in Sunnyside.  A Sunnyside officer and another Deputy were standing along the drivers side of the Deputies vehicle. They say a drunk driver traveling south crossed the roadway and crashed into the left rear side of the deputy’s car at an estimated 40-50 mph.
The Sunnyside officer and Deputy outside the vehicle avoided being struck by only inches.  A press release from the Yakima County Sheriff's office says the deputy vehicle sustained extensive damage. The Deputy seated in his vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene of the collision, but the three involved law enforcement officers quickly gave chase and were able to stop the suspect a short distance from the original scene.  The 31 year old, female, from Outlook would not comply with commands and had to be forcibly taken into custody.

Fortunately, none of the involved parties appear to be seriously injured. Deputies says the case demonstrates the danger law enforcement officers face every shift.

The Washington State Patrol is handling the collision and criminal investigation at the requested of the Sheriffs Office.
