The public is invited to the dedication ceremony for the John Hughes Student Health Center on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00am. The building located on the Sunnyside High School campus, between the football field and main building. There will be tours of the health center and refreshments following the dedication ceremony.

The health center was constructed with a $500,000 federal grant aimed at providing health services to students in support of their academic success. The building will house the Sunnyside School District's mental/behavioral support services, drug/alcohol prevention and intervention programs. Medical services, such as immunizations and sports physicals, will be provided through a partnership with Sunnyside Community Hospital.

The John Hughes Student Health Center is named after John Hughes, Sunnyside School District's former administrator in charge of drug and alcohol treatment who passed away this past January. "Without John's dedication and expertise in providing support to our community's most at-risk youth, this health center would not be a reality," explained Sunnyside School District Superintendent Dr. Richard D. Cole. "John understood that students' mental and physical health are critical factors in providing students the best opportunity to succeed, and we will continue to honor his commitment and memory through the work that will be done through the health center to support students," Cole added.
