According to the Yakima Police Department, a 40 year old man was struck and killed by a train in Yakima early Wednesday morning.
The man was purportedly lying lengthwise between the train tracks leading many to believe it was a suicide. The operatives of a northbound Burlington Nothern spotted the man but were unable to slow down in time to prevent the collision.
Emergency responders arrived at 1:20 AM and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s identity has not been revealed.
Yakima Police Department’s traffic unit is investigating why the man was on the tracks. Anyone with information should promptly contact YPD traffic investigator Adam Schilperoort at 509-424-1643.
