Coroners Inquest In Pasco Starts In May

PASCO, Wash. (AP) — A coroner's inquest into the shooting of a Mexican man by Pasco police is scheduled to begin in late May.

Franklin County Coroner Dan Blasdel says the inquest will begin on May 23 and be held at Columbia Basin College in Pasco.

The coroner's inquest is similar to a trial and will look into the death of Antonio Zambrano-Montes, an orchard worker who was shot to death by Pasco police last year.

KNDU-TV reports that the college has donated its facilities.

Blasdel has been pushing for a year for a public inquest into the death of Zambrano-Montes, who was throwing rocks at police when he was shot.

He had been met with resistance from county commissioners and judges over funding and courtroom access.
