When people change their clocks this week the Washington State Fire Marshal’s office reminds everyone to change the battery in your smoke detector or at the least test that battery.

Washington State Fire Marshal Charles Duffy smoke alarms most often fail because of missing, dead or disconnected batteries so maintenance is a simple, effective way to protect families and other individuals.  Duffy says warnings from smoke alarms can provide those critical extra seconds people need to get out safely.  He recommends that households plan, discuss and practice escape routes. He says it is obvious being prepared and knowing what to do in the event of a fire can save lives.
