A tour bus heading to Yakima from Los Angeles crashed early this morning near the town of Tulare some 200 miles north of LA in the Central Valley of California. There were 36 people on the bus when it crashed  just after midnight.

The tour company, Fronteras Del Norte, runs regular shuttle excursions up and down the West Coast. The bus was making a routine trip to Yakima when it appears as though the bus rear-ended a big rig as the semi suddenly hit the brakes.

There were 36 people on board.  According to KFSN-TV in Fresno, in a report on the safety of tour buses in November, The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration gave the busy company its worst rating for bus maintenance. Thereby putting it on alert status.  Paramedics  took 15 of the 36 people on board to area hospitals with minor injuries, including both drivers. The CHP says the others on the bus who were not injured were transferred to another bus to continue their trip.
