Even though this tragedy occurred a continent away from Yakima, we know that every parent in our nation is grieving right now.

Here's the latest report from Foxnews.com:

Authorities say at least 26 people, including 18 20 children, were killed Friday when a gunman clad in black military gear opened fire inside a Connecticut elementary school.

The numbers are stark. 26 dead, 18 20 of them children.

18 20 elementary school children. Children just like my 1st grader and 4th grader at Wide Hollow Elementary here in Yakima, Washington.

As a parent, one cannot help but think of those innocent victims and put their own children's faces on them.

I'm nearly 58 years old. I cannot wrap my mind around why someone would do this. 18 20 children looking forward to Christmas or celebrating Hanukkah. 18  20 futures snuffed out by a stranger with some sort of terrible agenda. 8 adults with families and perhaps children of their own taken away.

Why?

That's a question I may have to try and answer  tonight after work.

I have no idea what I'm going say.

How about you?
